This is a chronic inflammation of the gall bladder, which may be due to stone(s)/calcular) or inflammation /acalcullar cholecystitis). Sometimes gall bladder tumor may be associated with the inflammation of gall bladder.

Recurrent episodes of pain in the upper abdomen, or just below the ribs on the right side, pain which becomes worse over an hour and then stays the same and may spread to the right shoulder or between the shoulder blades.

Chronic cholecystitis is usually caused by repeated attacks of acute (sudden) cholecystitis. Most of these attacks are caused by gallstones in the gallbladder.

These attacks cause the walls of the gallbladder to thicken. The gallbladder begins to shrink. Over time, the gallbladder is less able to concentrate, store, and release bile. The disease occurs more often in women than in men, especially after age 40.Possible complications are Jaundice ,Pancreatitis and Cancer of the gallbladder (rarely)

Treatment

Cholecystectomy. (Surgery to remove the gallbladder) is the usual treatment. It might be Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (most often done) or open cholecystectomy
